It’s where history meets hope, and culture comes alive with music, storytelling, and unity.

What is PANAFEST?

PANAFEST (Pan African Festival of Arts and Culture) was established in 1992 by Ghanaian playwright Efua Sutherland. It is a biennial event designed to celebrate the strength, culture, and unity of African people across the globe. Through music, dance, theatre, and dialogue, PANAFEST reflects on the legacies of slavery while highlighting the shared identity of people of African descent.

What is Emancipation Day?

Emancipation Day commemorates the abolition of slavery in the British Empire under the Slavery Abolition Act of 1834. In Ghana, Emancipation Day holds deeper meaning as the country has become a symbolic “Door of Return” for people of African heritage worldwide.
